Five steps
- Open the official app or site. Download the Trump Accounts app, or start at trumpaccounts.gov. Opening and keeping the account is free.
- Verify your identity. A parent or legal guardian confirms who they are and their relationship to the child, and accepts the terms.
- Find your child's account. Most children under 18 with a Social Security number already have an account, created by the Treasury on or about October 1, 2026. Claiming links it to you.
- Ask for the $1,000, if your child qualifies. For a child born in 2025 through 2028, file IRS Form 4547 in the app, online, in your IRS Individual Online Account, or with your tax return. The deposit is not automatic.
- Share the gift link. Next to your child's name, the app shows a contribution link and QR code. Family and friends can use it to give.
What you need
- Your child's Social Security number.
- Your own identity details for the verification step.
- About ten minutes.
If you do nothing
An account the Treasury created is still there if you never claim it, and it can still receive the $1,000 pilot deposit (if someone elected it) and gifts from charities and governments, such as the Dell gift. But money from you, grandparents or an employer cannot go in until a parent or guardian claims it, and you cannot see or manage it. In mid October 2026, Bloomberg reported that fewer than 1% of the automatic accounts had been claimed.
Avoid look alike sites
The official site ends in .gov. No real Trump Account service will ask you to pay to claim an account. InvestAmerica.net is an independent guide and never asks for a Social Security number or bank details.
Questions people ask
Who can claim a Trump Account?
A parent or legal guardian of the child. They verify their identity and relationship in the official app or at trumpaccounts.gov.
Does it cost anything to claim?
No. Opening and keeping a Trump Account is free.
Do I need to claim it to get the $1,000?
The $1,000 needs an election on IRS Form 4547 for a child born 2025 through 2028. Claiming the account is what lets family and employers add money and lets you manage it.
My child already has an account. Why claim it?
On or about October 1, 2026 the Treasury created accounts automatically. Claiming links the account to you so you can see it, share the gift link, and receive family and employer money.
